The Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has shrugged off recent threats issued by the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, asserting that he will continue to visit Edo whenever he chooses.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday at his alma mater, Christ The King College (CKC), Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi emphasised that public threats will not deter him from his engagements across the country.
This comes in response to Governor Okpebholo's warning that Obi should no longer enter Edo State without official permission or risk his safety.
"I'm used to receiving threats. I will go to Edo any time I want," Obi said firmly.
Obi had visited CKC to support the institution through a ₦50 million donation on behalf of the school's alumni. The donation, he explained, was to encourage the college management in their continuous efforts to improve learning conditions.
He also used the occasion to urge Governor Okpebholo to focus on supporting public institutions rather than issuing threats, noting that development requires collaborative effort.
Welcoming Obi to the event were the Archbishop of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke; members of the college management; and students led by senior prefect Ejike Ekene.
In their remarks, the Archbishop and the senior prefect praised Obi's unwavering commitment to education and nation-building, describing his gesture as inspiring and impactful.
Obi commended the school leadership for their "phenomenal work" and reiterated the importance of investing in education as a pathway to a better Nigeria.
