TCN commissions new Bauchi substation, expands power supply to Northeast

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, said it has commissioned two 150MVA power transformers and 75MVA reactor at its new 330/132/33kV Bauchi Transmission Substation.

The feat, according to a statement signed and made available to journalists on Monday by its General Manager, Public Affiars, Ndidi Mbah, is geared at increasing bulk electricity supply to Bauchi State and the wider Northeast region.

The commissioning, which according to the release took place on July 3, marks the completion of a major infrastructure project that began in February 2022.

According to TCN, the new substation adds 240 megawatts (MW) of capacity to the national transmission grid and currently supplies power to the existing Bauchi 132/33kV Substation.

As part of the project, two new transmission towers were also said to have been erected to enhance network flexibility and reliability in the region.

The project was executed under a partnership between TCN and the World Bank and is expected to improve power supply to customers primarily within the Jos Electricity Distribution Company's franchise area.

"This development underscores TCN's commitment to expanding the transmission grid and improving electricity infrastructure nationwide," said TCN's General Manager, Public Affairs.

She added that the new substation is anticipated to boost economic activities and improve the quality of electricity supply across Bauchi State and the entire Northeast region.
