'Good money, but...' - Super Eagles star Boniface reveals why he rejected Premier League move

Victor Boniface admits he turned down a "good money" Premier League offer before joining Leverkusen, citing a need for the right playing style and fit.

Nigeria and Super Eagles striker Victor Bonifacehas opened up about his decision to turn down a lucrative Premier League offer before joining Bayer Leverkusen, emphasising the importance of finding the right playing style and environment to thrive.

In an honest video shared on social media, Boniface revealed that while the financial terms from England were attractive, he prioritised football philosophy and personal fit over money.

What Boniface said

"You know I said I don't really like the Premier League, not like if I have the opportunity to go I will not, but if I want to go, I want to go to some certain type of teams," he explained.

Boniface stressed that throughout his career, he has always sought clubs where success is a priority, saying, "Since I started my professional football career, every team I have played, it's either we came first or second."

"The thing is, before I make a transfer or go to a club, I always check what type of football they're playing, is this going to suit my pattern? I can help? Is it a team that there's too much pressure? Because some players can't play under pressure."

He recounted having "some decent deals coming from England. Good money, good everything," but ultimately decided against joining those teams due to their style of play.

"Some people are good in struggling, if you put me in a possession team I will give you everything. I can't play some styles but when I am playing, I am playing you see the best of this guy, the best of that guy."

Boniface also highlighted his desire to be a key player rather than just a squad member:

"I can go to a team I will be like the number one. We might lose a game, but everybody will be like 'oh, that guy.' But right from grassroots, the way I am playing, if I am on the pitch I am bringing everybody into play."

His thoughtful approach shows the importance of fit and philosophy in a player's career decisions, showing that for Boniface, football is about more than just money; it's about making an impact on the pitch.
