A Nigerian lady has shared her shock after learning about a controversial tradition during her visit to Benue State, where she was told that a man can automatically claim a woman as his wife simply by firing a gun into the air after finding her attractive.
The revelation was shared in a video posted on TikTok by user @ulenusetv, which shows the lady recounting her experience.
According to her, she was informed that if a man sees her, likes her, and shoots a gun into the air, she becomes his wife instantly-whether she consents or not.
In her words: "In this state I am, Benue State, if a man sees me and likes me, once he has shot a gun in the air, he has claimed me. If I want or not, he has paid my bride price like that."
She further explained:
"I was told in the bus that if I visit a friend here and a man sees me, once he fires a gun into the air, I instantly become his wife. Then they'll come for me at my father's house."
In the video, voices of nearby women could be heard affirming the claim, adding to the lady's shock.
The video has since gone viral, with many users taking to the comment section to express disbelief, concern, and curiosity about the alleged tradition.
